2016 AFMTE Annual Business Meeting Held Online

On July 14, 2016, the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education held its Annual Business Meeting online. Their bylaws state they must hold an annual business meeting with their membership. The purpose of the meeting was to update their members about business and committee work during the previous year. The meeting agenda included a financial report, election information, updates on their National Teacher Education Standards Project, the 2017 Educational Congress, association updates, and committee reports. They also allotted time for questions and answers so that all attendees had an opportunity for their voices to be heard and concerns addressed.

The Alliance reports that 69 individuals pre-registered; 55 attended the meeting, of which 37 were AFMTE members. The event lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes and was moderated by President Cherie Sohnen-Moe, as well as Immediate Past President Pete Whitridge, Marketing Consultant Stephanie Beck, and Committee Member Deanna Sylvester.

Participants asked questions and requested feedback on issues such as The Massage Body of Knowledge Committees, continuing education provider certification, the National Certification Board and Federation of State Boards of Massage Therapy status on continuing education provider approvals, requests for marketing and school admissions speakers at the 2017 Educational Congress, and voting privileges for Allied Members.
