Greetings from the AFMTE President!
The holiday season of 2020 is unlike any we can recall. It is quieter. More introspective. Less face-to-face community, more reflection. Less excess consumption, more gratitude. Less focus on ourselves, and more on others. Less arguing, more deep listening. A brand-new lens for us to understand personal responsibility and how our actions impact others.
This year has brought many new challenges that were unthinkable last year at this time. We have honed our skills of adaptability, flexibility, and resilience. We learned how to incorporate technology in new and innovative ways. We continue to look for creative ways to remain connected to our loved ones, our students, and our colleagues. Now, more than ever, touch is an essential part of our lives and our appreciation for it has never been greater.
As we draw 2020 to a close (and if you don’t mind my saying, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, 2020!), we at AFMTE want to know how to best support YOU in this brave new world. With that in mind, are asking you to complete our 2020 Annual Survey. We are inquiring about a number of things, including how you have been impacted by COVID-19, what topics you would like to learn about, and most importantly, what you need from us to better connect with our community of educators.
AFMTE is an inclusive community that exists to support us all in providing the highest quality of education possible, even (and especially) in this moment of paradigm shift. Let’s find a way to support each other and lift one another up in these trying times.
We recently held our 2020 Annual Business meeting, which was recorded and is available here. I want to extend a big thank you to the Board Members for their leadership and to the members who attended!
If I had to summarize the theme for this year, it is CONNECTION. That is what I want for our AFMTE community.
